Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why are some big robots kept behind safety fences?

The Big Idea

Big factory robots are kept behind safety fences because their arms swing fast and with strong force! The fence keeps people at a safe distance while the robot works. A robot does not know a person is in the way unless it is built to notice.

Fast and Strong

Step one: fast and strong. A big factory arm can lift a whole car door and swing it around in a blink. That much power could hurt someone who is standing too close.

The Fence

Step two: the fence. A safety fence keeps people at a safe distance while the robot is working. Gates in the fence have switches, so the robot stops if one opens.

Power Off First

Step three: power off first. People only go inside when the robot is switched off. Trained workers also lock the power switch, so no one can turn it on by accident.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The fence marks the danger zone. The gate has a switch that stops the robot. A warning light shows when the robot is active. And powering off makes the zone safe to enter.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Safety rules help everyone stay safe. Floor lines and signs also warn people to keep out. Newer collaborative robots can work without fences. Never climb over a fence, and never enter a machine area.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, try an experiment! Use masking tape to mark a safety zone around a toy on the floor. Practice staying outside the line while a friend moves the toy. Why does the line help in a busy room? Take turns being the toy mover!
