How Can Sound Waves Clean Eyeglasses?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How can sound waves clean eyeglasses?

The Big Idea

Sound waves clean eyeglasses in a machine called an ultrasonic cleaner! It is a small tank of soapy water with a device that sends in sound too high to hear. The sound waves make tiny bubbles that scrub away dirt.

High Sound Waves

Step one: high sound waves. The cleaner sends ultrasound into soapy water, which means sound too high for people to hear. The waves move through the water.

Tiny Bubbles

Step two: tiny bubbles. The waves squeeze and stretch the water so tiny bubbles form and pop, over and over. The bubbles are called cavitation bubbles.

Scrubbed Clean

Step three: scrubbed clean. Each little pop gives dirt a tiny scrub. That can reach the tiny gaps in eyeglasses, and only grown-ups should use these machines.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! First, sound waves are sent into the tank. They shake the soapy water. Tiny bubbles pop beside the dirt. The glasses come out clean. Grown-ups only, please.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Quick facts about ultrasonic cleaning. Jewelers and dentists use ultrasonic cleaners too. The bubbles are far too small to see. The sound is too high for people to hear. Always let a grown-up use the machine.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! On paper, draw how tiny bubbles pop beside a dirty spot and push the dirt away. Label the sound waves, the water, the bubbles, and the glasses. Use arrows to show the waves moving through the water. Share what you discover with a grown-up.

Tiny bubbles can scrub away dirt, all thanks to sound waves we cannot even hear. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
