Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do screens use only red, green, and blue dots?

The Big Idea

A screen is covered in tiny dots, called pixels, that shine red, green, or blue. Your eyes blend the three lights together. Making each dot brighter or dimmer lets the screen show nearly every color!

Tiny Pixels

Step one: screens are made of tiny dots. They are called pixels, and a screen has millions of them. Each pixel has little red, green, and blue parts. The dots are too small for you to see from far away.

Bright or Dim

Step two: each dot can be bright or dim. Red and green dots glowing together look yellow to your eyes. The screen mixes colors by adding light.

White Light

Step three: all three glowing makes white. Where red, green, and blue dots all shine brightly, you see white. Where all three are off, you see black. That is how a screen builds a whole picture.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! This dot glows red. This one glows green. And this one glows blue. Up close, a white area is a crowd of all three glowing at once. Your eyes blend all those dots into smooth pictures.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Pixels are tiny dots that make the picture. Red, green, and blue can make nearly every color. A white area is a crowd of red, green, and blue dots. Take screen breaks, and rest your eyes often.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up's permission, hold a magnifying glass up to a TV or tablet. Show a white or yellow picture. Hold it gently, and do not press on the screen. Look for the tiny dots. What colors do you see?

Outro

Screens use red, green, and blue dots to build every color you see. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
