Why Is Light the Fastest Thing There Is?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why is light the fastest thing there is?

The Big Idea

Light zooms along at about 300,000 kilometers every second! In one second, it could circle Earth more than 7 times. Nothing we know of travels faster.

Super Speed

Step one: light is super speedy. It could race around our whole planet more than 7 times before you finish saying one! That is faster than any rocket or jet.

Speed Limit

Step two: light is the cosmic speed limit. Scientists have tested and tested, and nothing we know of beats it. Light is the speed champion.

Instant Light

Step three: why lamps seem instant. Light crosses a room in a tiny fraction of a second, so it seems to arrive the very instant you flip a switch. Your eyes simply cannot catch that tiny delay.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at a race! Light is the winner by far. A jet plane is fast, but light is about a million times faster. Even a rocket is very slow compared to light. And a turtle, well, it takes its time!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Light travels about 300,000 kilometers every second. That is more than 7 trips around Earth in one second. Light could cross the Atlantic Ocean in less time than a blink. Remember, never look at the Sun to test its speed!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Stand by a light switch and flip it on. Watch your finger and the room very carefully. Try to spot any delay before the room lights up. You will not find one, because light is too fast for your eyes!
