Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do wildlife corridors matter?

The Big Idea

Wildlife corridors matter because roads split habitats into pieces! Animals that try to cross busy roads are in danger. Corridors give them safe paths to cross.

Roads Split Homes

Step one: see the problem. Roads split habitats into pieces. Animals that try to cross them can be in danger from cars, and drivers can be in danger too.

Build a Crossing

Step two: build a safe crossing. Wildlife corridors include bridges, tunnels, and green strips. They let animals cross a road without meeting cars. Some are bridges covered with grass and trees, and some are tunnels underneath.

Reconnect

Step three: reconnect the habitat. In Banff National Park, there are wildlife bridges over the highway. Connecting habitats helps animals find food, find mates, and move to new places when they need to.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! A busy road cuts the forest in two. A wildlife bridge arches over the road. Soil and plants on top make it feel natural. Then elk, deer, and other animals can cross safely.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! In Banff, grizzlies, elk, and wolves use the wildlife bridges. Banff's crossings are among the most studied in the world. Cameras show which animals use them, and scientists count them. In a car, watch for wildlife signs and ask a driver to slow down.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Design a cardboard eco-bridge over a toy road. Which animals would use it? How would you make it feel natural for them, with trees or soil on top? Share what you discover with a grown-up.

Wildlife corridors help animals travel safely. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
