Why Do Wolves Bring Food to Den Pups?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do wolves bring food to den pups?

The Big Idea

Wolves bring food to the den pups because the pups are too little to travel far! The pack brings meals home to them. Delivering meals keeps the next generation healthy and growing.

Tiny Pups

Step one: tiny pups. Wolf pups are born in a den, which is a cozy hole in the ground. They are too small to travel far with the pack.

Meal Delivery

Step two: meal delivery. Hunters carry meat in their stomachs and bring it back up for the pups, or carry pieces in their mouths. That way, the pups get food even though they can't hunt.

The Whole Pack

Step three: the whole pack. Other pack members help bring food, too. Delivering meals keeps the next generation healthy and growing.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The den is a safe home for the pups. The pups wait there, growing up. Hunters bring back food for them. And many wolves in the pack help. It takes a whole pack.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Even the pups' older siblings may babysit. Wolf pups are born deaf and blind, and they open their eyes after about two weeks. Pups stay near the den for the first few months. If you spot a wild den, stay far away and tell a grown-up.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Pack a small snack bag for a younger friend or sibling on your next walk. Choose snacks that are safe and easy to carry. What would you pack for a hungry pup that is too little to walk far? How do wolves do it differently?
