Why Is Handwashing a Community Superpower?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why is handwashing a community superpower?

The Big Idea

Handwashing is a community superpower because it cuts down how many germs pass from hand to hand. Your clean hands protect the people you love. Even a small habit can help a whole neighborhood stay well, one wash at a time.

Germ Hitchhikers

Step one: germ hitchhikers. Hands touch doors, toys, and faces all day, and germs hitch a ride. Then they can pass to the next person you touch, or to your own eyes, nose, and mouth.

Soap Power

Step two: soap power. Soap pulls germs and grime off your skin, and bubbles help lift it away. Scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, under your nails, and around your thumbs.

Rinse And Dry

Step three: rinse and dry. Rinse with clean water to wash the germs and soap down the drain. Then dry your hands with a clean towel, because germs like damp hands.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at handwashing! First, wet your hands with clean water. Add soap and make lots of bubbles. Scrub for 20 seconds, about two rounds of Happy Birthday. Then rinse and dry your hands.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Wash hands before eating and after using the bathroom. Wash after coughing, sneezing, playing outside, or touching animals. If you have no soap, a grown-up can help you use hand sanitizer. Your clean hands help protect friends and family.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Teach a friend the 20-second wash. Sing Happy Birthday twice while you scrub. Be a handwashing hero for your community!
