Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do pupils change size?
The Big Idea
Pupils change size because they are like little doors that control how much light enters your eyes. In dim light they open wide to let more light in. In bright light they shrink to protect the delicate parts inside.
Dim Light
Step one: in a dim place, pupils grow big. The black circle in the middle of your eye is the pupil, a hole that lets light inside. A bigger hole gathers more light so you can see in the dark.
Bright Sun
Step two: in bright light, pupils shrink. Too much light could hurt the sensitive back of your eye. So small pupils let in less light.
Automatic!
Step three: it all happens by itself. Tiny muscles in your iris, the colored part, make the pupil bigger or smaller. A camera has an opening that works in a similar way.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look at your eye! The iris is the colored ring, and it can be brown, blue, or green. The pupil is the dark hole that lets light in. Tiny muscles in the iris squeeze or relax to change its size. And your brain tells those muscles what to do.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Pupils can change size in less than a second. They can also get bigger when you are surprised or very interested. Pupils look black because the light goes inside and stays there. Never shine a light into anyone's eyes.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! With a friend's okay, look at their pupils in a dim room. Then look again in a bright room and notice the change. Remember, no flashlights in eyes!

Pupils are light gates that open and close all by themselves. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
