Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why does your body need a skeleton?

The Big Idea

Your body needs a skeleton because bones are like the strong frame inside a building! Bones hold you up, protect the soft parts inside, and even make new blood cells. A skeleton is scaffolding and a little factory, all in one.

Holds You Up

Step one: bones hold you up. Without a skeleton you would be floppy like a jellyfish, and you could not stand, walk, or run. Your muscles pull on your bones, and that is how you move.

Protects Organs

Step two: bones protect. Your skull wraps around your soft brain like a helmet, and your ribs make a cage around your heart and lungs. That armor keeps the important parts safe during bumps and play.

Makes Blood

Step three: bones make blood cells. Inside some bones is a soft, jelly-like middle called marrow. Marrow works like a factory and makes new blood cells every single day.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The outside of a bone is hard and strong. Inside, the marrow makes blood cells. Bones are built with minerals like calcium, which make them tough. And here is the best part: bones are alive, not dry sticks, so they can grow and fix themselves.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! An adult skeleton has about 206 bones. The smallest bone is deep inside your ear, and it is tinier than a grain of rice. Your thigh bone is the longest bone in your body. Take care of your bones by moving, eating well, and sleeping.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Gently feel your shin bone and think about the hard armor right under your skin. Then feel your ribs while you take a slow breath. Tell someone what your skeleton does for you!

Outro

Your skeleton is a frame, armor, and a blood factory. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
