Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What is gravity, in kid words?

The Big Idea

Gravity is an invisible pull. It's why things fall down, and why you don't float off into space! It's working everywhere, all the time, even while you sleep. Let's break it down!

A Pull Between Masses

Number one: gravity is a pull between masses. Mass means how much stuff, or matter, something is made of. Everything with mass pulls on everything else. The apple pulls on Earth, and Earth pulls on the apple!

More Mass and Closer Means Stronger

Number two: more mass, and closer, means a stronger pull. The more mass something has, and the closer it is, the stronger its pull. Earth is huge and close, so its pull on us is strong. A tiny apple's pull is way too weak to feel!

It Holds You to Earth and Planets to the Sun

Number three: gravity holds you to Earth, and the planets to the Sun. Gravity keeps your feet on the ground. It also keeps Earth and the other planets orbiting around the Sun!

Gravity Pulls Both Ways

Let's look closer at that apple and Earth. Earth pulls the apple down, so it falls. And the apple pulls on Earth too, just a teeny, tiny bit! Earth has so much more mass, so it barely moves, while the apple zooms down.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Gravity never turns off. It's working when you're sleeping, jumping, or even floating in space! Astronauts float because they're falling around Earth, together with their spaceship. On the Moon, you'd weigh only about one-sixth as much. Boing! And the Sun's gravity is strong enough to hold all eight planets!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Jump up. What happens? You come back down! That's gravity pulling you back to Earth. Now drop a sock and a shoe at the same time, from the same height. Which lands first? They land at almost the same time! Gravity speeds up light and heavy things the same way.

Outro

Gravity is the invisible pull that holds our whole world together. Look up and wonder more! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
