Do chimpanzees comfort each other?
Researchers have watched chimpanzees comfort friends who are upset.
A chimp may put an arm around another chimp, or give it a gentle pat or a hug. This kind of caring is also seen in other apes. It shows that apes have feelings and notice each other’s feelings. Comfort helps a group stay close and calm.
