Book 32, Question 44
What happens to a lizard in a sudden cold snap?
When it gets very cold, a reptile can become too stiff to move.
In Florida, cold-snap nights have caused green iguanas to fall from trees, still alive but stunned. Most wake up when the day warms. Sea turtles can get cold-stunned too, and volunteers carry them to rescue centers. If you see a stunned reptile, tell a grown-up and don’t touch it.
