Book 32, Question 38
Why is a leopard gecko’s tail so plump?
A leopard gecko’s tail looks thick for a reason.
It is full of fat that serves as a snack bag. When food is scarce, the lizard uses the fat for energy. Gila monsters store fat in their tails, too. A fat tail tells you the lizard is well fed, while a thin tail suggests it is hungry. Tail fat is a savings account for hard times.
