Book 32, Question 17
Why do tortoise shells look domed while sea turtle shells look flat?
A tortoise lives on land, where a tall, rounded shell is strong and hard to bite or crush.
The dome also gives room for its big insides and can help it roll back upright. A sea turtle needs to glide through water, so its shell is flatter and smoother to cut through waves. Each shell shape matches the animal’s way of life.
