Book 32, Question 15
Why is a crocodile’s bite so strong to close but easy to hold shut?
A crocodile’s jaw-closing muscles are huge, so it can clamp down with enormous force.
The muscles that open the jaw are much smaller and weaker. That’s a smart design for gripping, but it means the mouth can stay shut with very little effort. People who study crocodiles carefully use this fact to stay safe. Never go near a wild crocodile yourself.
