Book 31, Question 124
Do birds make friends?
Many birds form strong social bonds.
Chickadees stay in the same flock all winter, and parrots in pairs preen each other’s heads. Zebra finches in experiments prefer to spend time with certain partners over others. Crows recognize their relatives and neighbors. Scientists don’t know exactly how birds feel, but they can see that some birds choose favorite companions.
