Book 31, Question 61
How long does it take for an egg to hatch?
It depends on the bird.
A chicken egg takes about three weeks. Many small songbirds hatch their eggs in around two weeks. The giant albatross sits on its egg for more than two months. Bigger eggs usually take longer, and so do eggs from birds whose chicks hatch ready to walk. During that time the parent has to keep the egg warm almost every hour.
