Book 31, Question 32
Why is a toucan’s bill so big?
A toucan’s bill can be about a third of its body length, yet it is very light because it is hollow inside, like a strong sponge.
The long bill helps the bird reach fruit on thin branches without climbing out onto them. Scientists also found that the bill gives off body heat, like a car’s radiator, which helps the bird cool down in the warm rainforest.
