Book 31, Question 24
Can birds smell?
Yes, but how well depends on the bird.
For a long time, people thought birds couldn’t smell at all. Now scientists know that many can. Turkey vultures and ocean birds called petrels can find food by scent. The kiwi sniffs the ground for worms with nostrils at the tip of its long beak. Many songbirds have a modest sense of smell.
