Book 30, Question 128
Which animals nest and hide along a natural lake shore?
A shoreline with plants is a busy neighborhood.
Turtles dig nests in sandy banks. Frogs hide in cattails and reeds. Red-winged blackbirds weave nests among the stalks, and ducks and loons nest close to the water. Dragonflies perch on stems, and young fish shelter in the plants’ shade. When shorelines are cut back to bare lawn or cement, many of these animals lose their homes.
