Book 30, Question 110

What does the pH of lake water tell you?

If it gets too low, many animals like snails and some fish may struggle.

The pH scale runs from 0 to 14. Water at 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is basic. Most lakes sit between about 6.5 and 8.5. Rocks around a lake matter: limestone helps keep water balanced, while hard granite makes lakes more easily affected by acid.
