How does chlorine make water safe?
Chlorine is a chemical that damages germs so they can't make people sick.
A small amount is added to drinking water at the plant, and a little stays in the pipes to keep protecting the water on its way to your tap. The amount is carefully measured to be safe to drink. Chlorine has helped make tap water safe in many places for over a hundred years.
