What do yellow or purple leaves tell you?
Leaves can give hints.
Pale yellow older leaves may mean the plant needs nitrogen, while soggy soil can also cause yellowing. Purple leaves may happen in cold weather or from a shortage of phosphorus. Brown, crispy edges can mean too much sun, wind, or fertilizer. Gardeners look at the whole situation, not just the leaves, before taking action.
