Book 29, Question 36
Why do some garden plants need stakes or cages?
Tall or climbing plants like tomatoes, peas, and pole beans can flop over under the weight of their stems and fruit.
Stakes, cages, and trellises give support. Keeping plants upright lets air move through leaves, keeps fruit off the soil where it can rot, and saves space. Put supports in early, so you don't damage roots later.
