Book 28, Question 112
What is artificial turf made of?
Artificial turf is made from plastic grass blades attached to a flexible backing.
Between the blades is a layer of material such as sand or rubber crumbs that helps cushion and support the blades. Water drains through holes so fields can be used in rain. Turf lasts through heavy play. It can get hotter than natural grass in the sun, so players should drink water and take breaks.
