Book 27, Question 107

How do liquid crystals make pictures on a screen?

Liquid crystals are strange materials that flow like a liquid but have molecules that line up like crystals.

In a liquid crystal display, a thin layer sits between two filters. A small electric signal twists the molecules, which lets light pass through or blocks it. Millions of tiny dots called pixels switch on and off to make pictures. Calculators, watches, and TVs use this idea.
