Book 27, Question 47
Why do crystals grow on a string or twig?
A rough surface, like fuzzy string or a twig, gives dissolved particles many tiny places to start sticking.
As the liquid evaporates or cools, particles attach there and grow. That is why a string dipped in sugar water collects rock candy crystals. In nature, minerals from springs can coat leaves and twigs with crystals the same way.
