Book 27, Question 12
Are metals made of crystals?
Yes.
A piece of metal is made of countless tiny crystals called grains, each one a block of lined-up atoms, all packed together. Bending a metal paper clip makes layers of atoms slide, which is why metals can bend instead of snapping. Blacksmiths, steelmakers, and engineers shape and heat metals to change their grains and make the metal tougher.
