Book 26, Question 29
How does a lotus leaf keep itself clean?
A lotus leaf is covered with tiny bumps and a waxy coating.
Water cannot spread, so it rolls into beads and runs off. As the drops roll, they pick up dirt and carry it away. This is called the lotus effect. Engineers copy it for self-cleaning paints, glass, and fabrics, so that rain can do some of the cleaning.
