Book 26, Question 8
How did a spring that fell off a shelf become the Slinky?
Instead of landing in a heap, it flipped end over end and walked across the floor.
In 1943, engineer Richard James was testing springs for ship equipment when one fell off a shelf. He thought it would make a great toy. His wife named it the Slinky. It first went on sale in 1945, and the toy sold out quickly.
