Book 25, Question 136

Why do cities protect old buildings?

Old buildings tell the story of a city and make it special.

Their materials and craftsmanship are often beautiful, and reusing them saves resources. Cities can protect them with heritage rules and find new uses for them. In Toronto, old factory buildings in the Distillery District now hold shops and studios. A city with history feels like a place with memories.
