Book 25, Question 102
What are "lights out" programs for migrating birds?
During spring and fall, billions of birds migrate at night.
Bright lit-up towers can confuse them and cause them to collide with glass. In Toronto, a group called FLAP asks building owners to switch off unneeded lights from midnight until dawn during migration. Birds find their way better, and the buildings save energy too. Many cities have joined.
