Book 25, Question 62
Why is a strong smell added to the gas that heats our homes?
Natural gas has no smell at all, and it can be dangerous if it leaks.
So companies add a harmless chemical with a strong odor, often described as rotten eggs, so that people notice a leak right away. If you ever smell it at home, tell a grown-up and go outside. Do not turn lights on or off, and call for help from outside.
