Book 25, Question 11
How do tall buildings stay safe from fire?
Tall buildings have many layers of fire safety.
Sprinklers spray water when heat is detected, and alarms warn people. Steel is covered with a fireproof coating, because steel gets weak when very hot. Fire doors and strong stairwells give people a safe way to leave. People should use the stairs, not the elevators, in a fire. Practicing fire drills helps everyone know what to do.
