How do geologists find oil and gas hiding deep in the rock?

Geologists send sound waves into the ground and listen for the echoes. The waves bounce back differently from different layers of rock, like the echo from a canyon wall. Computers turn the echoes into a picture of what lies below. They look for the shapes where oil and gas might be trapped.
