Why Are Temperate Rainforests Covered in Moss?
Moss loves damp, cool, shady places, and temperate rainforests have plenty of all three. Moss has no roots to take up water, so it soaks it up straight from the air and rain. It can cover branches, logs, and rocks in a thick green carpet.
