Why Did Sailors Blow a Horn Near Cliffs and Listen for the Echo?
Sailors blew a horn near cliffs to use the echo as a safety check in fog! When they could not see the shore, the echo told them how close it was. A quick echo meant a close cliff, and a late echo meant a far one.
