Book 12, Question 7
Why Do Lava Tubes Form?
A lava tube is an empty tunnel left behind by a river of lava. The top of the river cools into a roof, while the hot lava keeps flowing below. When the lava drains away, the tunnel is left behind.
More fun facts

- When the eruption ends, the lava drains out and leaves a cave tunnel behind.
- Lava stalactites form while lava is still flowing through the tube.
