Book 11, Question 124
Why Do Tree Frogs Need Moist Micro-Homes?
Tree frogs need moist micro-homes because their thin skin dries out fast! A micro-home is a tiny damp hideout, like a leaf pocket or a hollow in a tree. They find places high in the trees where moisture collects.
More fun facts
- White's tree frogs usually live in trees, not in or near ponds.
- Rain collects on leaves, in cup shaped plants and in cracks in tree trunks, giving tree frogs water.
- Almost daily rains refill these spots, so the frogs always have water to stay moist.
- Coronated tree frogs lay their eggs in tree holes partly filled with water.
- Like many tree frogs, White's tree frogs can change color a little.
