Book 10, Question 90
Why Wear Sunglasses in Bright Glare?
We wear sunglasses in bright glare because bright sunlight can bother and harm our eyes! Good sunglasses cut the glare and block the invisible UV light from the Sun. Never stare straight at the Sun, even with sunglasses on.
More fun facts
- Light reflecting off water or roads becomes polarized, meaning it vibrates more in one direction, and that causes glare.
- Polarized sunglasses work a bit like window blinds, letting some light through while blocking glare.
- Polarized lenses reduce eye strain and improve how clearly you see contrast.
- Polarized lenses only cut glare well when they are held at the right angle.
- Sunglasses without UV filters may fail to protect your eyes from damaging light.
- Narrow sunglass arms can still let UV light reach your eyes from the side.
