Book 1, Question 60

Why Do Mountains Exist? Three Ways to Build a Peak!

Mountains form in different ways, and the page gives three cool reasons. Plates of Earth's crust can collide and crumple, folding land upward. Volcanoes can pile up layers of lava over time. Then wind, ice and water wear mountains down and shape them. The page says the Himalaya mountains are still rising a tiny bit every year, about as fast as your fingernails grow. Push a towel until it folds and rises to see how colliding plates squeeze the land.
